UPCD DEAN MEETS WITH CHULA DENT AND TMDU DEANS
January 4 and February 2, 2023
Dean Michelle Segarra paid courtesy visits to the Deans of Chulalongkorn University Faculty of Dentistry and Tokyo Medical and Dental University Faculty of Dentistry. This is in line with the plan of the college to forge linkages with top ranking universities in the region.
Chulalongkorn's Faculty of Dentistry is currently in the world's Top 70 for Dentistry (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023) and is ranked 2nd in ASEAN and 1st in Thailand.
Tokyo Medical and Dental University Faculty of Dentistry is currently the 3rd best university in Dentistry in the world (QA World University Rankings by Subject 2023), and #1 in Japan and Asia.
Dean Segarra met with the Faculty of Dentistry's Dean Pornchai Jansisyanont last January 4, when she accompanied the nine students from UP College of Dentistry to the Academic Visit and Exchange Program (AVEP) of Chulalongkorn University.
The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Dean for Research, Prof. Dr. Thanaphum Osathanon from Chulalongkorn University and Associate Professor Armin Segarra from UP College of Dentistry.

Dean Segarra also had a separate meeting with Prof. Atipan Pimkhaokham of the Department of Surgery. She also visited the clinics and research laboratories of Chula Dent. The meeting resulted in a Memorandum of Understanding between the two universities.

The MOU includes visits and informal exchanges of faculty and students, cooperation in postgraduate education and training, joint conferences, graduate and undergraduate student exchange, and research collaborations. The MOU was signed on March 22, 2023.

On February 2, 2023, Dean Segarra met with Dean Tetsuya Yoda of Tokyo Medical and Dental University. Also present in the meeting were Prof. Sachiko Iseki of the Molecular Craniofacial Embryology Section and is in-charge of International Relations, and Professor Yasushi Shimada of the Department of Cariology and Operative Dentistry with Associate Professor Armin Segarra from the UPCD.

The purpose of the meeting was to explore collaborative projects under the existing MOU between UP Manila and TMDU signed last November 2022. The meeting resulted in the recently held Research Mini-Symposium between UPCD and TMDU on May 15 where both institutions presented possible research areas that they can work on together.

Also discussed during the February 2 meeting was the support for the application of UPCD graduates to the graduate programs of TMDU thru the Japanese Ministry of Education Scholarship Program (Monbusho/MEXT)
