The UP College of Dentistry held a one-day workshop for
faculty members on the use of “UVLe” :
the University Virtual Learning Environment last July 1, 2015 at the UP
Manila Library Learning Commons.
“The name "UVLe" is a homophonic
play of "Oblê" which is a contraction of "Oblation"--a
university symbol. <It is an online
virtual classroom system> powered by an open-source application called
“Moodle”. UvLe is currently being
maintained and operated by the Diliman Interactive Learning Center (DILC). It is a platform for students to freely
interact or collaborate with their instructors and fellow students and is
constructed with a pedagogy that imbibes self-discovery, self-instruction,
"learning by doing" and experimentation. (http://iskwiki.upd.edu.ph/)
The UPCD introduced this system to faculty
members thru a hands-on workshop on its basic functionalities and use. The workshop aimed to provide the basic
training needed for faculty members so that they may be able to employ the
system as a support tool for teaching their respective courses.
We have invited the Director of the Medical Informatics
Unit, Iris Thiele Isip Tan MD, MSc, as the facilitator for the seminar/workshop.
The Graduate Program in Orthodontics underwent the same UVLe Workshop with Dr. Charlie Atienza as the Facilitator on August 2015.
