UP COLLEGE OF DENTISTRY ACTIVELY PARTICIPATES IN THE 17TH AAPD INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
Students and faculty members of the UP College of Dentistry proudly represented the University of the Philippines and the country in the recent 17th AAPD International Conference. This year's theme was "Innovation in Dental Public Health and Preventive Dentistry: Bridging Gaps for Better Oral Health".
Dean Michelle Segarra was an invited speaker in the Symposium on ""Bridging Inequities in Oral Health Access: Community-Based Interventions and Integrated Care Models" where lecturers from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines presented their experiences.
Dr. Arlene Alfaro presented a poster on "Integrating Oral Health Education into Early Childhood Care: A Training Program for Daycare Teachers in Naic, Cavite". Three of our students - Ms. Klarisse Antonio, Ms. Kayela Patiag and Ms. Angelica Napiza, accompanied by their adviser, Dr. Gay Raralio, presented a poster on their research, "Effect of Water Intake and Water Swishing Immediately After an Acidic Challenge on the Salivary pH". Their group was given the "Best Country Regional Award."
Dr. Armin Segarra and Dr. Maxine Gonzaga joined the workshop on Designing Maternal and Child Oral Health: Policy, Practice, People. Dean Segarra joined delegates from other ASEAN countries, Japan and Korea in the by invitation only workshop/dialogue on Guidelines of Fluoride Varnish for Caries Prevention in School-based Oral Care Programs in East and Southeast Asia.
