THE UPCD CRED: COMPREHENSIVE RESTORATIVE AND ESTHETIC DENTISTRY

THE UPCD COMPREHENSIVE RESTORATIVE AND ESTHETIC DENTISTRY

Dr. Armin G. Segarra

The UPCD short course in Comprehensive Restorative and Esthetic Dentistry was first offered in 2010 during the first term of Dean Vicente O. Medina III. It was proposed by Dr. Armin Segarra who later became the Course Coordinator.

The course was in response to the growing demand for continuing education courses among dentists and UPCD was responded with its own program. The course is a non-specialty course, but esthetic dental procedures were becoming very much in demand. The course is open to all licensed dentists, be they graduates of UPCD or from other schools. Only 20 students were accepted during the first course offering but later because of demand, the number of students was increased to 35 per offering at most.

At first, CRED was only a lecture and hands-on workshop (laboratory) course. In 2014, a clinical component, with treatment of actual patients was added.

To date, there are around 400 graduates of CRED. Participants come from various parts of the country and there have been a handful of foreigners who enrolled in the course.

Earnings from the short course have funded several projects of the College.
