UP College of Dentistry hosts CLIC'EM at the Center for Oral Health

UP College of Dentistry hosts CLIC'EM at the Center for Oral Health last April 11, 2024.

The UP Manila Discovery Innovation Hub (DIH), established special links between the representatives of the UP Manilla SIBOL (Surgical Innovations and Biotechnology Laboratory) of the UP College of Medicine,  UP College of Engineering  Dept of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research, Dept of Mining Metallurgical and Materials Engineering and the Dept of Mechanical Engineering with the UP College of Dentistry.

During the CLIC'EM (Conversations  Leading to Innovation and Collaboration-Eat & Meet), the faculty members of the  UPCD  Clinical Sections interacted with their esteemed visiting colleagues exchanging ideas and plans  regarding innovations that can be further developed with the objective of  improving patient care.

Collaborative activities were initially discussed to include  repair and modification of special dental devices, designing and fabricating innovative tools and teaching aids for better learning,  inventions and research in the field of dentistry to include developing special materials  for clinical use. Systems development and the incorporation of the various digital platforms like CAD-CAM with 3D printing were also discussed.

The lunch and meet gathering  also  served as an opportunity to present  what the UPCD has to offer as well as what the UP SIBOL and the UP College of Engineering can provide. After the productive meeting the group was oriented with  a walk thru at the Center for Oral Health which currently houses the Orthodontics Post Grad Program among others.

A quick visit to the  research laboratory  followed realizing that the UP SIBOL can also use the services of the universal testing machine and electron microscope along with other special systems.

The group then proceeded to a special  room with some of the guests trying out  the Simodont virtual  reality treatment simulators drilling on teeth with close to natural feel.

The day was capped with a tour to  the clinical sections and laboratories of the college providing some insights for ideas and future activies of the planned collaboration.

The summer heat did not deter everyone from keeping their smiles!
